Well done to the Liberal Democrats. It is an outstanding achievement to win every seat on the Council.

There was so much goodwill expressed towards me during the campaign that I allowed myself to hope.  But it was not to be.

I'm sure THe Lib Dems will do their best for Twickenham even if it's not in directions I would choose, and costing more than it should.

It was pretty clear from early in the overnight count that we hadn't made a clear enough case for voters to switch their allegiance away from the incumbents.  However, a huge thank you to everyone who did put an X alongside my name.  It is a humbling experience seeing hundreds of ballot papers bearing your own name pile up.

Also thank you to everyone I met along the way, so many of whom buoyed my spirits with their enthusiasm.  The Conservatives aren't going away.  We will build diligently and we will be back.
