Lib Dem Council's heavy reliance on volunteer efforts to manage litter in Twickenham are not enough.

If you are one of the many local residents that take part in the excellent volunteer initiatives to keep our borough clean, I applaud and thank you. Community litter picks; "adopt an area" schemes; 2-minute litter pick boards; and litter challenges all have their place in a community such as Twickenham.
But everyone who walks through busy areas can see that this isn't enough. The council's strategic shift towards community led cleaning is letting Twickenham down. Effective cleaning and bin management are non-negotiable. The Conservatives commit to spending whatever is needed to stop sights like the bin in the picture. Sights which are common across the town centre.
I didn't take the picture of the overflowing bin heading this post. It was sent to me on Monday afternoon by a disgusted local business owner who has given up contacting the Council. "Despite the tens of thousands of pounds we pay in business rates, all the Council ever do is suggest businesses take action themselves."
The Lib Dems could devote more resource to keeping Twickenham clean but they chose not to. And we all get to live with the results.
