"Twickenham town centre just feels less safe. Other Councils apparently managed to save public access to the police, why did ours fail to keep it open?"

Guy, who lives in central Twickenham with his disabled wife, has a daughter in her early 20s who also lives nearby.
"Surely they understand how reassuring the presence of a walk in counter is for us all. Walking past the locked door every day just makes the police feel more remote"
The public front counter at Twickenham police station closed permanently on 28th February. The closure means that our borough no longer has a 24/7 in-person police station counter. We are advised to use the nearest available counter in Hounslow.
Guy is right. other Councils did manage to keep their police counters open. The Conservative led Council in Hammersmith and Fulham campaigned vigorously, early, and effectively to keep their police counter open, and won.
By contrast, the complacent Lib Dems in Richmond waited until it was too late to kick up a fuss. Yes, they are making lots of noise now about the loss to the community. But it happened on their watch. Twickenham police counter could have been saved. That it wasn't speaks volumes for the ineffectiveness of this Lib Dem administration.
